Insomnia always triumphs over logic

Mon Oct 5, 2009, 12:23 AM
  • Mood: Bemused
  • Listening to: Metallica - My World
  • Reading: How to Own a Dragon
  • Watching: The little emoticon go back and forth
  • Playing: What I can
  • Eating: Saltines
  • Drinking: Green Tea
Lately I have been fighting extreme bouts of insomnia having stayed awake for nearly seventy two hours during a span last week. Often times when this occurs my mind wanders, a lot. I often dive into subjects of social and possible spiritual ideas.

My latest venture, the current one while I'm writing, is about the current state of the entertainment industry which is sad bordering on pathetic. There is no new energy or any creativity to speak of. For examples so doesn't seem like I sound like a raving maniac for real reason, so many NEW movies coming out are either remakes of classic movies, video games, comics, or are a sequel of another movie which didn't even need a sequel (let alone two or more). Thus when anything that is actually new or creative shows up it is either torn apart because we don't need creativity in Hollywood or it is actually given the credit it deserves, but then it becomes what all the other movies are through unneeded sequels. I look back towards previous decades, like classic comedies, I don't think we have any comedy worth the term classic in this decade. It is no longer how creatively funny can we be, but can we shock our audience into laughter. I recently watched Caddyshack, that is a true classic comedy with classic comedians: Bill Murray, Chevy Chase, Rodney Dangerfield.

The most depressing to me is the same rusting is happening to the video game industry as well, repeats, remakes, and sequels. Now I know that there are further creativity, but they are hardly focused toward the "hardcore" gamers, but towards the casual gaming of the Wii, in which Sony and Microsoft are copying. I fear that the age of the controller is disappearing with this movement, so I can not say I am happy with this particular movement in the gaming industry. In the eighties and even into the nineties you could simply create a game based on anything and as long as it played well you didn't care, but now games have become almost a Hollywood kind of venture. Honestly I couldn't give a damn about graphics, as long as it plays well, I will play it. For anyone who has played Wolfenstein: Enemy Territories you know it doesn't look even close to new games, but it is fun as hell!

Well there is my three thirty rant. Comment, rant, or simply read it the choice is yours and knowing is half the battle! GI JOE!
